The club Championships were conducted this year over the course of 2 weekends. The intent was to create an alteration of the long term 2 qualifying weeks followed by 2 weeks of match play. Feedback was that the 4 week period was too greater time to secure attendance for the majority. Feedback from this year is that the less agile players could not handle 36 holes on a weekend, hence further review of format is required. 2014, 2015 and 2016 did not require registration hence we are unable to assess whether the championship was a growth or decrease in numbers. However in 2013 there was a requirement to registration prior to the qualifying rounds and the total entries was 47. This year was 48, hence there is not much of a difference but nothing lost either. However it does justify further review for a better format once again.

2018/19 season will be the birth of a new format based on a Monthly Medal Qualifying schedule. Meaning, the first 9 monthly medals will be Championship qualifiers. How the qualifying will work is that you can play all rounds or a min of 4. Your top 4 scores – Off the Stick – will be your qualifying scores, Top 8 qualify for match play. Match play format will be 18 holes over 2 weekends. Hence compacting the championships into 2 weeks whilst giving everyone the chance to qualify over the year and the less able to be able to pace themselves. Entries for all players on all Monthly medal rounds will increase to $10 the excess $1 going into the prizes of the Championship. This year, on top of weekly prizes, $500 was awarded to finalists. However with the 100 players as a base average of the course of 9 weeks we envision $900 min (most likely in the $1300) being the prize payout. We believe it will give greater incentive to be apart of as well as a live all year leader board will mean greater presence of the Championships. Exciting times.

Feedback will be asked of at the end of 2018/19 so a fair go is given to assess the benefit. I look forward to implementing this change in April 2018.

Now… onto the winners!!

Congratulations to all the finalists and of course the winners. Josh Gumm taking out the 2017/18 Championship, back to back.
